Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.

Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. is a network of lifelong, close-knit, and down-to- earth Hermanas, focused on building up and supporting each other as well as our local communities through social justice organizational activism. We are a Latinx womxn based — but not exclusive — sorority that encourages academic excellence, professional networking, personal development and self care, community activism, as well as alumni mentorship. Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. focuses on two philanthropic goals nationally, including L.E.A.A.P: Latinas Educating on AIDS Awareness and Prevention, and Proyecto H.A.C.E.R., an initiative focused on providing marginalized predominately low-income womxn of color with resources for their educational and career advancement. Alpha Chapter has several reoccurring and past events that we have hosted at Cornell University. Past programing includes Kisses and Condoms, Cafe con Leche presentations at the Latinx Living Center, Latin Food Night, Boxing for Self Defense, and Feel the Warmth blanket making event for charity, to name a few. We aspire to work towards the advancement of all womxn of color, with a special emphasis on the Latinx womxn.

Greetings,

The Alpha Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. is made of eight Hermanas who are enthusiastic about growing the chapter and empowering our communities, specifically womxn of color with a special emphasis on Latinx womxn, through organizing with Multicultural Greek Letter Council organizations and intersectional student organizations on campus. We are looking to promote our organization by expanding our campus presence through social media, celebratory events, activist organizational work, informational events, and through our sustainable involvement on campus by working with communities — not for them. In the future, we aspire to recruit even more empowered and empowering womxn of strength, intersectional identities, and profound narratives to join our organization. Our presence and organizational activism on campus is deeply felt as we work for the Cornell community, the Ithaca community, as well as our very own respective communities back home — whether that be nationally, through the diáspora, internally or wherever/whomever we may designate as home — to dismantle problematic structural, institutional, and systemic manifestations. We are more than proud to be an integral part of the Multicultural Greek Letter Council (MGLC), and truly look forward to working alongside our fellow MGLC organizations and with Cornell University students.

In unity,

Mia Mishaan

President
